Weaver Street Market IQF shell-on shrimp is back!
This great quality shrimp is a result of a partnership between Weaver Street Market, Seal the Seasons, and Mr. Big Seafood of Harkers Island, NC. Fishermen Eddie and Alison Willis have been providing us with fresh seafood since 2013. In 2016 we had the idea to buy in a large volume of shrimp at peak season and have it frozen in the IQF (individually quick freezing) machine at Seal the Seasons in Hillsborough. Freezing fresh fruits, vegetables, and seafood is a great way to preserve the harvest for the months to come after peak season is over. The seafood enabled Seal the Seasons staff to keep working in their off season. And, freezing gives farmers and fishermen a reliable market for their product and consumers delicious, local food all year round.
We had a short gap in supply after last season’s batch sold out, but the shrimp is back. Last year we sold over 3,500 pounds! Thanks for continuing to support our local fishermen.
