High quality, fresh ingredients are what it’s all about at the Weaver Street Market Food House. Sometimes just because a fruit or vegetable isn’t pretty on the outside doesn’t mean it’s not perfect on the inside.
Last week we got a call from our friends at Eastern Carolina Organics, saying they had a farmer with a bumper crop of butternut squash that he wasn’t able to wash and pack for retail before the first mountain frost. It was all he could do to get the squash out of the field and into a big bin before they threatened to rot in the rows. We didn’t mind a little dirt: a good deal for us on a bin of unwashed butternut, and a good deal for the farmer who got paid for his product instead of letting it go into the waste stream. We were happy to help out!
