We’re happy to announce the winner of the Cabot Celebrity Cruise: Hillsborough resident Amy Crump.
A friend nominated Amy for the prize, which is offered to people who volunteer in their communities. She wrote that Amy deserved to win because “some people talk about making the world a better place; Amy makes it happen. She conducts herself in a way that incites action in others naturally, encouraging others to think deeply about the immediate community and world we live in. And then take a leap to engage.”
As a teacher, Amy and her students participate in a service club that volunteers various places. They also run a coffee cart to fundraise for nonprofits, and do Habitat for Humanity. Outside of school, Amy volunteers as a “friendship partner” with World Relief, a group that helps refugees coming into the area. She meets with a refugee at least once a month to help her with any questions she has. She also volunteers in the IFC’s support circles, supporting people who’ve recently left the shelter by forming a relationship and checking in regularly.
One of the reasons Cabot selected Amy was because she has a great range of experiences to share with the other volunteers on the cruise. She’ll have opportunities to hear about new ideas to share with our community.
Amy had no idea about the nomination and so was surprised to receive an email telling her she had won–at first she thought it was a promotional email. She and her husband have been on a cruise once before, for their tenth anniversary. “It was the worst cruise ever,” Amy says. She was sick the entire time. “It was an Alaskan cruise, it was exactly the same trip we’re going to be doing, so we feel like we’re going to get a redo.”
The Cabot Celebrity Cruise sets sail in June.
