Chapel Hill–Carrboro’s Food for the Summer program kicks off today, providing lunch to 1600 kids in our community each weekday. The program is a collaboration between our towns, the schools, UNC, and local non-profits. To deliver and serve food at 20 meal sites each day, they need to fill 1684 volunteer slots (38 volunteers each day). The program runs from June 13 to August 12.
Even just taking on one volunteer shift would be a help. A shift is from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM and involves transporting and serving food to one site. While at the site, you are encouraged to engage with the kids, whether through an activity or by taking the time to visit.
Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger says, “Your time will make a world of difference to the kids you serve, and your support will help Food for the Summer succeed this year and take root for the future!”
