Local Fest: September 29, Celebrate Local Art, Craft, Music, Food and Culture in Orange County! Trash-free volunteers staff sorting-stations and rove the event grounds making sure waste diversion is maximized and moving smoothly. OCSWM will provide gloves, grabbers, and drinking water if you BYOBottle. Shifts: 9 AM-12:30 PM, 12:30-4 PM, 4-7 PM (yep, cleanup shift is the shortest!). Carrboro Music Fest: September 30, Keep Carrboro squeaky clean, moving recycling along and picking up litter while listening to great music, free, all day long. Excellent! Shifts are 1-4:30 PM and 4:30–8 PM. Volunteers get a Carrboro Volunteer T-shirt! Festifall: October 7, Chapel Hill’s Premier Art Extravaganza on Franklin St! Keep Chapel Hill clean and green, by monitoring recycling along with great music and art. Shifts are 12-3:30 PM and 3:30-7 PM. Volunteers get a free meal ticket! http://www.chapelhillfestifall.com/
Farmers Market Compost Collection: Every Saturday! Compost Monitors make sure nothing but compostable food and paper go into this special collection, set up and switch out full carts, and assist and educate users. The Saturday-only compost collection is the first at any farmers market in NC, and has diverted over 60,000 pounds of compostable waste since its inception in 2016. Shifts are 7-9:30 AM and 9:30 AM-12 PM till November.
All OCSWMD volunteer opportunities are eligible for Student Service Learning Hour credits. Must be 16 or older or bring an adult. Training is provided! Call 919-968-2788 or email muriel@orangecountync.gov for more information.
