We’ve got all sorts of goodies in stores to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
Treats and Sweets
Our pastry bakers are making beautiful and delicious sweets for you and your sweetheart. See a gallery here. We’ll also have gluten-free Valentine pastries from JP’s. And we have a variety of chocolates and candies in beautiful boxes, including chocolate assortments made by Gearharts Fine Chocolates in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Heart Baguettes and Cheese
Our bread bakers are making their signature heart-shaped baguettes, along with a baguette filled with parmesan and black pepper. These special breads will be available only from February 8 to 14. Of course we have our usual straight baguettes every day as well. Local creamery Boxcarr Handmade Cheese has made a special edition of heart-shaped Cottonbell. This cow’s milk, camembert-style cheese appears every winter as the creamery’s goat milk supply wanes.
Fair Trade Roses
Fair-trade roses arrive on February 11 via Qualisa. These roses come from Ecuadorian flower farms that treat their workers well and improve living conditions in their communities. Female workers particularly benefit from Fair Trade: they are protected from the physical and sexual abuse found on other farms. The farms also make environmental commitments. Read more.
Local Bouquets
We’ll have bunches of local lilies from Sarah & Michael’s Farm, and local flowers from Wild Hare Farm. (Varieties depend on the weather–last year we had tulips and hyacinths.) We’ll have other beautiful bouquets, as well as conventional roses and potted plants. And if you need a card, there are valentines in the rack near the cut flowers. Read more.
