Weaver Street Market’s Board elections ended Sunday. Owners elected a consumer owner and a worker owner to serve on the Board. Congratulations, Hank and Jon!
Hank will begin his term as director at the Board retreat in January. He has attended numerous Board meetings, including leadership sessions given by the Board. The Board will sponsor his participation in a training course for new Board directors in Asheville later in January. Jon is currently serving his second term on the Board and began his role as Chair last January.
The Elections Committee, which oversees the election process, presents the following results from this year’s two elections:
Results for consumer-owner election
Consumer owners had a slate of five candidates running for the open consumer-owner seat: Hank Becker received 175 votes (37%), Rob Pengelly received 120 votes (26%), Holly Hough received 69 votes (15%), Lisa Best received 57 votes (12%), and Kathy Stewart received 48 votes (10%). Winners of WSM elections are elected by a simple majority.
Participation in the elections more than doubled from the previous year. The Elections Committee attributed this to having more candidates and offering online voting for the first time. Of the 497 votes cast, 333 ballots were submitted online. The committee reports that there were 28 invalid ballots cast.
Results for worker-owner election
Jon McDonald ran unopposed on the worker-owner slate. Jon received 64 ballots (100%). There was one invalid ballot cast.
