Despite the wind, rain, and chilly temperatures, more than 1,179 tickets were purchased for the April wine shows. The ticket proceeds—$11,790—go to WSM’s Cooperative Community Fund (CCF). This year we also held a raffle—a $5 ticket entered the raffle for a chance to win a case of wine. The raffle raised $2,365 in donations, which includes $1,000 in matching funds from the Frontier Herbs co-op.
Altogether, the wine shows raised $14,155 for the CCF!
The CCF awards grants annually to local nonprofits for projects that address access to healthy food. For example, in 2015, the committee chose to fund a nutritional education project by PORCH and a series of field-trips to Maple View Farm by TABLE. “PORCH Cooks” educated families who participate in PORCH’s Food for Families program on healthy eating and helped develop their cooking skills. (Read about the project here.) “TABLE On the Go” enabled the children served by TABLE’s programs to visit Maple View Farm and to participate in classes offered on the farm. The children had a picnic lunch with a demonstration of the food preparation, went on a hayride, visited farm animals, and took two farm classes: “All about the Dairy” and “All about Autumn.” (Read about the trip here.)
