If you’re looking for a delicious smoked ham for your family meal this Easter, look no further! Weaver Street Market is carrying locally sourced Petite City Hams from Firsthand Foods this year. Hams arrive in stores April 5 and will be available while supplies last.
We introduced these hams on our shelves this past Thanksgiving and they were an instant hit. With just a light smokiness, this ham pairs beautifully with a sweet and tangy glaze (link to Honey Glazed Ham recipe here).
Firsthand Foods
Firsthand Foods is an integral vendor partner of Weaver Street Market. They are a driving force behind the local food economy. Firsthand Foods aggregates beef, pork, and lamb from small producers all over the state of North Carolina for sale to local grocers, restaurants, and institutions. By acting as an intermediary, Firsthand Foods makes it easier for farmers to sell their product, and easier for buyers to have a steady supply without a lot of hassle. All of our local fresh pork sausage comes from Firsthand Foods, as well as all of our lamb.
About the Hams
The pork sourced by Firsthand Foods is all-natural as well as being hormone and antibiotic free, as are all of the meats on our shelves at Weaver Street. The hog producers of Firsthand Foods go one step further however, raising their animals outdoors on pasture and in woodlots, the way pigs were meant to be raised.
The growers that raised the hogs for our hams are part of the NC Natural Hog Growers Association, a cooperative of small farmers who raise hogs to Animal Welfare Approved standards, on pasture, with non-GMO feed. Each farmer may raise several different breeds, but the most common are Berkshire, Chesterwhite, Duroc, and Hampshire. Read more about the association here.
