In the pursuit of a just and equitable food system, economic diversity holds a pivotal role within Weaver Street Market’s framework of DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion). We recognize that the intersection between economic dynamics and food justice is essential in fostering a society where all individuals, regardless of financial background, have access to nutritious and culturally appropriate foods. By embracing economic diversity, we can cultivate an inclusive environment that empowers marginalized communities, dismantles systemic disparities, and nurtures a future where everyone can thrive.
Weaver Street Market remains committed to combating the critical issue of food insecurity and improving access to nutritious food for individuals and families in our community. We are proud to share our newest development in our Food for All (FFA) initiative, aimed at addressing these challenges by providing individuals with an active EBT card (for SNAP, TANF, or other assistance programs) co-op ownership shares at no cost and offering a discount on store items (excluding alcohol). Through this program, we aim to alleviate the financial burden associated with purchasing groceries, enabling program participants to stretch their food budgets further and make wholesale choices for themselves and their families.
As a food cooperative, we understand the significance of promoting healthy eating habits and fostering a supportive environment for overall well-being. By extending this program, we aim to incentivize the purchase of fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and other essential nutritional items. This approach encourages individuals to make healthy food choices while ensuring affordability remains a priority.
Our Food for All program is designed to go beyond immediate assistance and foster long-term solutions to food insecurity while promoting a sense of dignity and empowerment for individuals and families in need. We believe that by making healthy food more accessible and affordable, we can improve the overall health and quality of life for our community members.
We are committed to working closely with local stakeholders, community organizations, and government agencies to ensure the success and sustainability of this program. We envision a future where everyone has access to nutritious food, regardless of their financial circumstances, and we are dedicated to making that vision a reality through our Food for All program.
Join us in our mission to combat food insecurity, enhance food accessibility, and build a healthier, more inclusive community. You can donate to the Food for All program at any of our stores by Rounding Up or making a cash donation of any amount at the register. Together, we can make a lasting difference!
