WSM and TABLE send a huge thank you to everyone who supported the campaign!
Executive Director Ashton Tippins says, “Weaver Street Market Staff, Owners, Shoppers, and Friends— Your support of TABLE has been AMAZING! We are truly so appreciative of all of your efforts, time, and commitment to helping us feed local kids. The fact that you were even able to raise $30,000 in just 2 short weeks is so inspiring. And, as you know, these funds will go DIRECTLY to help us feed 350 kids for 6 weeks this summer. Not only will this food fill the bellies of local kids, but it will help kids return to school in August nourished and eager to learn, reduce their risks of health problems, and strengthen their self-esteem. What you all have and are doing is HUGE. It is nothing that TABLE has ever witnessed or experienced and it means so much to us and our kids.”
We set an ambitious goal for the TABLE food campaign—2,100 backpacks of food—and we came up with exciting kid-friendly foods that are healthy, tasty, and fun. Our shoppers responded with great generosity to TABLE and to the work the organization undertakes to feed local children at risk for hunger, particularly when the kids do not have access to free school meals on weekends and during breaks.
The impact of the backpack food campaign for TABLE is tremendous. The funds donated almost cover TABLE’s entire budget for the summer. What this means is that TABLE can save cash donations raised throughout the summer to support its weekend meal programs during the coming school year. Because of the funds our shoppers raised, the organization is likely to reach its goal of feeding 500 children by the end of the year.
The money we raised will provide 6 weeks of meals to 350 kids. The summer break lasts 8 weeks, and there’s still time to make a donation. We’ll continue to accept donations at our stores through the weekend.
