Our Apple & Pumpkin Fest begins today and continues through November 3. Look for featured apple and pumpkin items throughout our stores, including discounts on our pies and cakes. In our produce department, fill a bag with your pick of apple varieties from Hendersonville and western North Carolina. We’ll have seasonal tasting fairs where you can taste test the local apples and sample dishes cooked up by our demo team, fall beverages like local hard cider and pumpkin beer, Pumpkin Soup from our kitchen, and apple and pumpkin pies and cakes. (Come to fairs in Carrboro 10/24 from 11-2, Southern Village 10/30 from 4-7, and Hillsborough 10/31 from 11-2.)
Kids can guess the weight of the giant pumpkin in each store or go on a scavenger hunt to find the jack o’ lanterns (carved by our staff) and vote for their favorite. (Update: Jack o’ lanterns are still arriving, so the scavenger hunt might not start today!) Pose for photos outside our stores with our pumpkins, mums, and hay bales. Our annual Stories Under the Stars event in Carrboro is this Friday: gather on our lawn for spooky music and stories, a kids’ costume contest, and scary but delicious treats. On Halloween, vote for your favorite employee costume.
The Apple & Pumpkin Fest has a charitable counterpart in our current community Food Partnership: Apples for Families. We’re asking shoppers to donate money to buy fresh apples for one year for families served by the IFC and OCIM food pantries. Learn more about the campaign on our blog.
